First, and most important, my team and I want to give a sincere THANK YOU to all of the wonderful people who commented on last week's post. Please know we really appreciate your input - and I appreciate you.
A special thank you to: Debbie Curto, Rachael Ann Keith, Debbie, Lucy Nix, Lois Arrowood, and Juanita Cook for taking the time to comment on my blog itself, and for being an encouragement to us.
Since you asked for ideas on saving money and time: here is one of my most successful projects that save both time and money.
I only cook one day a week.
Because of family allergies I must cook from scratch. While this saves money, it requires more preparation time. Therefore, I now spend several hours a week, usually Friday or Saturday, cooking large batches of food. Spaghetti, chili and casseroles all work great. I even purchase ground beef and mix up hamburger patties ahead of time. When I am finished I place the food in the freezer.
The trick is: I spoon the food into individual-serving-size containers.
This allows each person to select what (and when) to eat since all that is required is to re-warm the dish.
Several months ago my husband asked about TV dinners. I experimented around and discovered it is easy to make individual TV dinners.
One important discovery is home-made mash potatoes do not work. It takes too long for them to heat. By the time the potatoes were warm, the rest of the meal was burnt. I now bake potatoes in the microwave and then slice before freezing as this technique works well.
I am spending much less time in the kitchen and there is less food-waste. An extra perk is that I am using less electricity, so the electric bill has dropped several dollars each month.
What time and/or money saving tips do you have for your food preparation? Please share as we know our readers will appreciate the information.
