Everyone who responded to my question in the last blog post said that they wanted me to write about different topics as each person enjoys learning new things.
In this blog I want to share a few facts about some famous authors as each one led an interesting life, complete with their individual quirks. Welcome back!
Alexandre Dumas:
The man was passionate about color coding his writing paper. He used blue for fiction, pink for articles and yellow for poetry. He actually believed if he had to use the wrong color that his writing would not be as good.
Arthur Conan Doyle:
Sherlock Holmes was not Doyle's most favorite character. The story where Holmes and Professor Moriarty fall to their deaths was published in the Strand magazine. The readers were so upset with Doyle for killing off their beloved Sherlock that thousands cancelled their subscription to the Strand.
Edgar Allen Poe:
Poe always dressed impeccably and had unusually neat hand writing. When preparing to read his writings in front of others he would secure his manuscript pages together to create a scroll. Then when he was reading he would allow the scroll to unroll onto the floor.
John Steinbeck:
When he was four years old, Steinbeck, discovered the wonderful sounds that words can make. Everything he wrote was written to be heard.
Samuel Clemens:
As a young child, Clemens spent his days playing with the slave children on his uncle's farm. When he was eleven he had to go to work because his father died. He ended up asd an apprentice for hislocal newspaper which started his writing career.
Virginia Woolf:
Woolf's sister was a respect artist, who stood to paint her pictures. When Virginia started writing she would stand to write her stories. In later years she would sit in an armchair with a writing board on her lap to write on. Some of her sister's paintings became the cover art for Woolf's books.
