3 Cleaning Recipes to Save Time and Money

When I first started making my own cleaning supplies I knew I would save money but was amazed at how much time it saved.

When purchasing my cleaning supplies, it would take a minimum of an hour, by the time I drove to the store, make my purchases and returned home. In addition to the cost of the supplies, there was the cost of gas. In the first six months of making my own products, I saved approximately $60.00.

Now, all I need are a few basic ingredients which only need to replenish once or twice a year. The Multi-Purpose Cleaner and the "Soft Scrub" can be made and ready to use within minutes. The Automatic Dishwashing Powder takes approximately fifteen minutes to make.

These recipes were modified for my locale, which has soft water. Feel free to tweak them anyway you like, for your own local requirements.

Multiple-Purpose Cleaner
8  oz.       White Vinegar
4  drops   Tree Tea essential oil
4  drops   Lemon essential oil
Place in a spray bottle and shake well before each use.
[Tree tea oil is anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. Lemon oil is a degreaser and kills germs.]

"Soft-Scrub"
1/4    cup     Baking Soda
1/4    cup     Liquid Castile Soap
1-2    drops  Tree Tea oil (optional)
Mix together in a small container to make a paste.
[Note: This works best if mixed fresh each time.]

Automatic Dishwashing Powder
1     cup    Borax
1     cup    Washing soda
1/4 cup    Salt
5 packets Lemon Kool-aide, unsweetened
Mix well and store in a jar with a tight-fitting lid.
[One of the key ingredients in all dishwasher soap is citric acid. Lemon Kool-aide is an excellent and inexpensive source of citric acid and it has a nice lemon scent.]

Have fun as you explore making your own home cleaning supplies.
